Sustainable Travel & Fair Store Transfers for Dunnes Staff

Dear Members,

At our most recent Dunnes National Committee meeting, several pressing issues were discussed and subsequently formalised in two letters to Dunnes Management. The matters revolve around two significant areas affecting the work lives of Dunnes staff: the current policies regarding staff transfers between stores and the absence of both the Tax Saver Travel Ticket Scheme and Bike to Work Scheme.

Staff Transfers Between Locations:

The inability for full-time staff to transfer between locations without relinquishing their contracted hours has prompted significant concern among our members. We have submitted a letter to Dunnes Management, highlighting the discrimination against full-time staff who are not permitted the same flexibility as part-time employees to transfer between locations without jeopardising their status. We’ve called on Dunnes to amend this policy as a matter of urgency. There is no operational reason to prevent full-time staff from transferring with the same privileges as part-time staff. Our letter strongly urges Dunnes to revisit the policy, which we believe is at odds with the fair treatment that all employees should expect.

Tax Saver & Bike to Work Schemes:

Economic pressures, exacerbated by the rising costs of fuel, groceries, and rent, are hitting our members hard as winter approaches. It’s against this backdrop that we are advocating for the introduction of the Tax Saver Travel Ticket Scheme and Bike to Work Scheme. These schemes serve dual purposes: they offer a financial break by reducing commuting costs and encourage environmentally sustainable travel options. Our letter to Dunnes underscores that there are no administrative barriers to implementing these schemes, especially given the recent upgrade to a modern automated payroll system. We have explicitly asked Dunnes to display public commitment to both employee welfare and environmental sustainability by introducing these schemes without delay.
